“Our belief rests on the divine idea that there is but One Mind, One Life – the Mind and the Life of God.
We are a part of that Life and Mind and all of us find our abiding place in our own consciousness.
The God we are looking FOR we are looking WITH and AT.”
Ernest Holmes, Founder
United Centers for Spiritual Living
GLOBAL HEART Spiritual Center is affiliated with United Centers for Spiritual Living, formerly known as the United Church of Religious Science. Its teachings, the Science of Mind, was put together by Ernest Holmes, a philosopher, visionary thinker, mystic, and elocutionist who was born in 1887 in Maine. The Institute of Religious Science and Philosophy began in 1935 and was federally recognized as a spiritual nonprofit organization (church) in the 1950's.
Holmes came of age during a time of great breakthroughs in science, psychology, philosophy and religion. He was greatly influenced by developments in the new science of psychology, as well as by the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Judge Thomas Troward, an Englishman raised in India who lectured on Mental Science. He was the last private student of Emma Curtis Hopkins, a Christian Science practitioner who had left that organization and gone on to teach and heal on her own.
Dr. Holmes was not interested in creating any kind of dogma, or in telling people what to think or believe. He taught not what to think, but how to think. Holmes valued intelligent exploration, and results produced through faith and prayer. A curious person by nature, Holmes investigated and read and studied widely. He was not one to swallow things without a thorough exploration of how and why they worked. Holmes taught the power of intuition and belief, and encouraged seeking and trusting the Divine guidance available to everyone regardless of their religion. He was among the first to teach the power of the human mind to influence our experience of life: in health, relationships, finance, and business. This idea, now quite familiar in our culture, is regularly featured in the success stories of artists, sports figures and business heroes.
